A winning role in shaping British pigs

The UK pig industry's top accolade, the David Black Award, has this year gone to the man who has organised the award scheme for the last 10 years - Ambrose Landon. He receives it for his work at the forefront of pig production since the early 1960s. Ambrose joined the Pig. Industry Development Authority (PIDA) after completing national service and graduating from agricultural college. At PIDA he initiated the first pedigree breeders consortium for genetic improvement and piloted the first national on-farm pig testing scheme to monitor back fat levels to improve carcase quality.
