When I was a lad in pigs, disease was a Damoclean Sword over our heads on the farm. Same today - only worse! Why, after 35 years, is it worse? After all, we now use the vet mor e as a 'fire prevention officer' and less of a 'fire brigade'. There are awide range of drugs and vaccines both he and we can use. More of us' keep things cleaner and the pigs cosier. Nutrition is less hit-and-miss and there are cost-effective pro-nutrients to keep the nutritional defences up. Disinfectants are better and stockpeople more alert/ better trained. So why, oh why, should there be more furrowed brows over disease these days?
