ifficulties in obtaining a reliable I supply of high-quality stores, and health problems caused by mixing pigs from several sources, led Richard Nesling to re-think his entire pig enterprise. Until 1989 he had specialised in finishing pigs - up to 15,000 a year from six separate suppliers. But disease, particularly haemophilus pneumonia, became a recurring problem. It proved hard to control, even with expert veterinary advice and expensive medication. Richard decided to make a clean break and set uphis own breeding unit to supply healthy weaners direct into his finishing pens.
