Guilford/USA (WAI) - The Wire Association International (WAI), Inc., with the support of its New England Chapter and more than 100 volunteers, assembled an activity-rich event that included exhibits, technical and social programs as part of Wire Expo 2006 and its 76th Annual Convention that concluded at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Participation figures were tallied at 2407, a slight increase over the Wire Expo 2004 show in Cleveland, and exhibition space was sold out. The week's activities took on the distinct flavor of the event's regional setting beginning with WAI's New England Chapter welcome reception and tour at Fenway Park where 400 guests heard remarks by Red Sox legend Rico Petrocelli before he announced winning raffle numbers for tickets to Boston Red Sox games later in the week. Monday's traditional wire cutting ceremony extended the baseball connection when former Red Sox right fielder Dwight Evans, who was revealed as the mystery guest, answered questions from the crowd before cutting the wire to mark the official opening of the 307-company exhibition.
