Well, this is my last editorial as Editor of the Wildlife Society Bulletin! I am compelled to quote a cliche: it seems like just yesterday that I wrote my first one. But it is not--it is almost 3 years later. But of all my editorials, I best remember my first. After "taking over" the Bulletin, I found that one of the major reasons for delays in getting manuscripts published in a timely manner was that people were unwilling to review papers. I confess that I was mad, and my anger was reflected in the first draft of my editorial. Fortunately, then-TWS President Jim Miller called and politely informed me that maybe I was being a bit harsh with the membership and that I should tone down my editorial. But like the professional he is, he told me that I could leave it as I had written it if I so desired--after all, I was the Editor. But I changed it, and I am glad I did. One result was that many members called or e-mailed me, apologized for not contributing as much as they could toward their Society, and volunteered to review papers; many even offered to serve as Associate Editors! To my great pleasure, throughout my 3-year tenure members continued to call and continued to offer to serve as AEs.
