Maintenance Basics for a Synthetic-Turf Field

Even though most sports-turf managers prefer natural turfgrass fields, in some situations — such as heavily shaded fields or multi-sport practice fields with near-constant traffic — a synthetic field may be the best option. If your facility is considering installing a synthetic field, keep in mind, however, that it will NOT be maintenance free. In fact, no matter what anyone says, synthetic turf does require routine maintenance. Also, infill material will gradually disappear from the field as it is carried off by players, wind, rain, snow removal, routine maintenance, equipment tires, etc., and since it is a crucial element of a synthetic field, missing infill will need to be replaced.
