The Economic Impacts of Virginia Forestry

Drivate forest land is Virginia's dominant land use at nearly 15,372,000 acres or 62 percent of its land area. Additional forest land is forested park land and public open space. The most obvious economic beneficiaries of these forests are the landowners and loggers whose livelihoods directly depend on maintaining quality timber stocks. According to the most recent estimates, more than 5,000 loggers are employed across the state, and forest landowners received nearly 350 million dollar for harvestedtimber in 2006.
