Virginia's Enduring Reforestation of Timberlands Program

The Reforestation of Timberlands (RT) program was enacted by the Virginia General Assembly with the support of Virginia's forest industry in 1971 after the 1966 Virginia Forest Survey showed an alarming drop in pine growth and availability. The survey reported that statewide pine harvests were exceeding pine growth by 15 percent. The RT program was created to provide cost-sharing assistance for landowners to plant pines on all available acres if it meets their forest management goals.
