Drivers and barriers to the implementation of repeat dispensing: qualitative insights from pathfinder PCTs

Repeat dispensing by community pharmacists is a key goal in the Department of Health's aim of reshaping care services around the needs of the patient and helping patients to get the most from their medicines.1 It has been defined as an essential service in the new pharmacy contract,2 and is currently being rolled-out across primary care trusts (PCTs). The aim of this study was to identify which factors facilitate and inhibit the implementation and development of this service, from a PCT perspective.
