摘要

Four outbreaks of botulism, caused by Clostridium botulinum, have been reported since 2005 on dairy farms in the province of West Flanders, Belgium. Serotypes of this bacterium are described, as well as its potential presence in foods. Risks associated with the presence of the bacterium in cattle feed, milk, milk products, and man are discussed. Farm management measures to be taken when botulism is expected are outlined, as well as preventative measures for different serotypes (B, C, and D).
