After a successful season in 2005, BBTM'S REVO-tuned R32 looks set for a repeat performance this year. IF ASKED which of the Volkswagen model range would make the best basis for a race car, most people would plump for the R32. Even in standard form, the car is very accomplished, with its combination of powerful V6 engine and four-wheel drive. But despite its rock-hard suspension set-up and rorty exhaust note, there is a big difference between a fast road car and a real racer. When the R32 first joined the grid in the Volkswagen Racing Cup series in 2003, it was as a celebrity car, piloted by a variety of drivers more for the experience than any real attempt at racing, It was also little more than a road-going car fitted with the safety equipment, so it wasn't ever going to be such a great success.
