REGULAR READERS will know that we've spent the last couple of years upgrading various elements of our 2000-model GTI 1.8T. Initially, this was only intended to be a fast road car, but increasingly we found ourselves taking part in more track days, not least because of our own regular events for VW and Audi enthusiasts at venues like Castle Combe, Croft and Mallory Park. At the same time, the car - now with over 158,000 on the clock - is also used for regular commuting runs, over 120 miles a day, so it has to remain reliable and practical.
