MY 'LOVE/HATE' relationship with this '96 GTI 8V began in 2012, shortly after writing off a horrible little French number. I'd had my eye on Mk 3s for years, ever since my tender teenage years, as it was the first car I actually really noticed and nearly 20 years down the line that dream became a reality. I've never really been a petrolhead and had very limited knowledge of motors, so I had no real idea of what options were available to me and I ended up with an 8V AGG, arguably the worst in its class! In retrospect, I wish I'd gone for a 16V or a VR, but - that said - insurance was always a consideration and this 8V was the first step down a whole new road of learning for me.
