VOLKSWAGEN finished a memorable year at the finale of the FIA World Rally Championship, the Rally Great Britain in Wales (November 14-17) with the best team result so far. The Polo R WRC won 16 of the 22 special stages and claimed 41 of a possible 66 top-three spots, with Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia finishing in first place overall - Ogier's first-ever Wales Rally GB victory - followed by Latvala and Anttila, with Mikkelsen and Markkula fifth. It was a fitting finale, the end of a phenomenal season that surprised almost everyone, with Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia already crowned World Champions in the Driver and Co-Driver competition at the Rally France and then, with team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila securing the Manufacturers' title in Spain.
