The Role of BEHAVIOR IN SHELTER ADOPTIONS

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) estimates that 6 to 8 million dogs and cats enter American shelters annually. Of those animals, half are adopted to new homes and half are euthanized. Recent studies indicate that most pet owners (perhaps some of your clients) who relinquish an animal to a shelter, veterinarian, rescue group, or other source usually identify the cause as a behavior problem that the owner is unwilling or unable to resolve.
