The influence of film forming amines on the exchange behaviour of condensate polishing resins

There is an increasing use of organic cycle chemistry based on film forming amines as an alternative to conventional treatment programmes for steam generators [1 - 5]. The intrinsic and characteristic property of film forming amines, often also referred to as polyamines or as fatty amines, is their adsorption onto metal surfaces. The thin hydrophobic film fosters the formation of a smooth and compact iron oxide layer, offering better protection against corrosion than conventional treatment programmes. Recently, the application of film forming amine products for dry lay-up of a steam generator was reported, resulting in an improved condensate quality after restart of the plant [6].
