摘要

Brigadier Andrew Warde QHVS, Director, Army Veterinary and Remount Services, provides an update on the military branch of the veterinary profession. In 2005 the nation celebrated the 60~(th) anniversaiy of'the end of World War 2. Readers may recall the Living Museum in Hyde Park in which the Armed Forces recreated aspects of wartime life. The RAVC contribution was a popular demonstration of the use of pack transport. The importance of horses and mules in war is reflected by their prominence in the wonderful memorial to Animals In War unveiled in Park Lane by The Princess Royal in November 2004. The primary role of the Army Veterinary Service, for much of its 209 years of existence, has been to maintain the Army's mobility by sustaining its horses. While the Corps continues to dedicate considerable effort to the important and worthy task of procuring ceremonial horses and maintaining their health and welfare, things have moved on.
