Updated design and operation experience of CFB boilers with energy saving process in China

During the past two decades, circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler technology has been developed rapidly and has become one of the commercially applied clean coal technologies around the world due to its wide fuel flexibility, excellent emission control properties and wide range of load adjustability. In China, this technology owns an irreplaceable position in the market of steam- and co-generation and has entered the power generation market recently. Nowadays, the total number of CFB boilers put into operation in China is over 3,000, including 32 units of the 300 MWe range. At same time, another 50 units of the 300 MWe range are under construction or will be under construction soon. Among these large-capacity CFB boilers, 18 units are licensed by Alstom technology and others are designed with domestic technology. The first domestic-technology-300-MWe-CFB was put in operation in 2008.
