Discussion on the potential and cost for different CO{sub}2 emission control options in Europe

Europe is largely depending on fossil fuels for a long time period. Options for reduction CO{sub}2 their cost and potentials are discussed. In the short term exchange of old plant by new ones or switching from coal to gas are least cost alternatives. Renewable energy sources are also available but at higher cost and with a limited potential. In the long term, capture and storage of CO{sub}2 from fossil fuels is probably a less costly option.
