Advantages and drawbacks of fluidized bed plants in various fields of application

The circulating fluidized bed combustion has found a widespread use in the last years in Europe, America and Asia, especially as an industrial and beating power plant of medium size. The main reasons for their success were that difficult, low-quality fuels could be used and that they could meet the considerably more stringent environmental requirements without modifications having to be made. Another advantage is the possibility of co-combustion of special fuels like biomass, sludge and residual matter. Future oriented developments of the CFB technology point towards higher capacities, extended use in refuse incineration and implementation in other processes like coal-fired combined power plants and coal drying.
