The effect of methods of seedling planting and protecting plants against frost on the seed yield of kohlrabi

In the years 1987-1990 at the Department of Vegetable Crops of the Agricultural University of Szczecin the field experiment was carried out. The aim of this study was to estimate the effect of different methods of seedling planting and protecting plants against frost on the seed yield of kohlrabi cultivated by the non-steckling method. Based on the obtained results, it was proved that the method of seedling planting used in the experiment had no significant influence on the wintering plants, their vernalization and on the quantity of the seed yield of kohlrabi. However, it was found that covering plants for winter with straw or branches of fir gave a lower percentage of wintered and vernalized plants and a significant decrease of seed yield.
