ALKALI LEACHING OF LEAD IN THE COMPLEX HYDROMETALLURGICAL PROCESSING OF LEAD-ZING SUBLIMATES

Treating sublimates, produced on Waelz- and fuming units, includes sulfuric acid leaching of zinc with subsequent electrolysis of zinc solutions; also, pyrometallurgical treatment of lead residues (lead cakes) jointly with lead concentrate, using agglomeration-shaft furnace smelting-Waelz treatment (fuming) [1]. By-product treatment of lead cakes reduces the lead production indices. There is some interest in the complex hydrometallurgical treatment of sublimates with leaching of the lead and zinc, which can be based on selective alkali leaching of lead [2-4] and acid leaching of zinc [1]. That kind of combination requires minimum of changes in technology since the zinc recovery remains traditional. Furthermore, first lead is leached and then zinc, or the reverse. In the first approach, lead is leached from sublimates and in the second - from lead cakes. Lead is extracted from solutions electrolytically [4]. This aim of this work is to compare the results of alkali leaching lead from sublimates and from lead cakes as s basis for selecting a flowsheet for complex hydrometallurgical processing of sublimates.
