IN REGIONAL VNTO BOARDS

At industrial enterprises of the Zaporozh'e region, only recently has attention been given to the trapping of harmful discharges from technological units. Gas purifying installations today are physically obsolete. Measures adopted by enterprises for capital repair and reconstruction have not produced effective results. In 1987, for example, the discharge of harmful substances to the environment has exceeded PDV [maximum permissible limits] by 2-4 times. Solving ecological questions at enterprises in the division is the responsibility of the scientific-technical community of enterprises and regional VNTO boards. At a number of sessions of the board's presidium and at scientific-industrial meetings, these questions have been a major consideration. However, as follows from the materials being considered, enterprises are showing no further prospects for technological development and a whole series of completed plans remain unrealized. Discussions of environmental activity - for example, at the Dneprovsk Aluminum Plant in association with community organizations in the city -have only managed to draw some conclusions about a series of local goals.
