Welding is commonly defined as a process for joining similar metals. It employs pinpointed, localised heat input through an arc discharge at the weld location and covers the temperature range of 1,100 deg to 3,000 deg F (600 deg to 1,635-C). Most welding involves ferrous-based metals such as high carbon steel and stainless steel. However, these welded joints are not as strong as the parent material due to the change in its properties and structure.
