Laboratory research into continuous casting - pressing, combining the operations of casting, crystallizing, and pressing metal in a single unit has shown its efficiency and potential for industrial production [1,2], Today, a continuous casting-pressing line is being tested at the Sayansk Aluminum Plant. This production line has no analogies in our country so that theoretical research on the process have been inadequate when drawing up plans for equipment and flowsheets for industry. A basic parameter determining the plastic deformation of metal is the force which has to be applied to a tool to produce articles with a specific shape. Therefore, the first stage in the development of continuous casting-pressing is to determine the torque on an operating impeller-crystallizer needed to extrude the metal - hardening in a launder (the mobile part of a container) - through the sizing opening of a die (Fig. 1).
