Fibre reinforced metal profile pressings - from twisted continuous metal-clad reinforcing filaments and/or short fibre reinforced continuous metal threads

A number of elementary threads composed of reinforcing and metal filaments, in parallel bundles or twisted together, are laid in profile moulds and press weld, under heat if necessary, to the required form. The elementary threads may be continuous reinforcing filaments of boron, carbon, tungsten, etc. with a metal cladding, or may be continuous fine threads of the matrix metal (Cu, Al, Ti, etc.) reinforced with short fibres, so combined that the reinforcement forms the core and is sheathed by the matrix material. These are twisted into cables and fed continuously to the press moulds.
