There is considerable interest in researching mass exchange in mattes of the copper-nickel industry as an approach to solving problems dealing with the intensification of pyrometallurgical processes. However, there is clearly inadequate information on this subject in the literature. This work used the rotating disc method to study the kinetics of iron, nickel, and cobalt dissolution in synthetic melts of the Cu-S system. As is well known, melts of this system are characterized by a stratification region which is maintained when metals of the iron subgroup are introduced to them [1]. Therefore, the metals will dissolve in homogenous melts, containing 0, 0.9 and 20.1 percent S in the initial state. Specimens for dissolution were prepared from K1 cobalt (GOST 123-78), NO nickel (COST 849-70) and El 2 steel (GOST 11036-75) which - with respect to impurities (including carbon) - are similar to Armco-iron. In order to prepare melts, use was made of MO copper (GOST 859-66) and pure grade sulfur (TU MKhP ORTs 83-57) which, when sulfides are being prepared, are alloyed with each other.
