As the summer slowly warms up, all across the country,horse owners want their horse to look their best, with a sleek, glossy coat, whether showing, jumping or simply hacking out. Horses themselves love being turned out to pasture for the summer months. As a consequence, many suffer from skin diseases, related to the rise in temperature. As with many other species, it is not always possible to make a quick, on-the-spot diagnosis for skin conditions. Often, cases require further clinical work for an accurate diagnosis. Many skin problems present with a similar clinical picture, despite being caused by some very different aetiological agents. It is essential that vets take the time to collect a detailed history, conduct appropriate tests and reach a definitive diagnosis; especially due to the recurrent nature of many skin problems.
