LAMENESS-INCIDENCE DATABASELameness in sheep is a noteworthy cause of pain and discomfort, limits production and is undoubtedly restricting the financial viability of many sheep flocks. However, it is often not recognised as a significant problem by either sheep farmers or their veterinary practitioners. In order to control any flock health problem, the first step must be recognising and categorising the nature of the problem. Unfortunately, we lack accurate information on the within-flock incidence of lameness and the frequencyof diagnosis of the common causes of lameness. It is only after identifying the disease and the numbers affected that a successful control programme can be implemented.
