Understanding heart failure

Therapy for dogs and cats with heart failure (HF) has come a long way in the past 10 years, according to Matthew W. Miller, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), fellow of the Michael E. DeBakey Institute and professor of cardiology at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in College Station. Ten years ago, the stan-dard therapy for dogs with signs of HF was furosemide (Lasix), an ACE inhibitor, and possibly digoxin.
