Precious, a 12-year-old, 15-lb, spayed domestic shorthaired cat, presented with right-sided facial swelling of 1-week duration. She was an indoor cat and was current on core vaccinations. The owner could not recall any traumatic event, and the cat hada good appetite and was grooming. Dental examination, including multiple extractions, had been performed 9 months before presentation, and a new kitten had been introduced into the home within the past 24 hours. Physical examination demonstrated an overweight cat (body condition score 5 out of 5) with normal vital signs. Oral examination revealed a large, firm, nonulcerated, well-defined swelling of the right maxilla in the area of the fourth premolar (tooth 108), which had been extracted during the previous dental procedure. The cat did not display any pain during the oral examination and did not react negatively to digital palpation of the swelling.
