The challenges of Canadian oilsands projects

Valve World had the opportunity to meet with Professional Engineer, Asad Khan to discuss his experience working for EPC companies on a variety of projects, the challenges of working in the Canadian oil sands and his thoughts on the future of the industry. Recently earning recognition as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, Asad began his engineering journey in India, graduated Mechanical Engineering from Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology (Z.H.C.E.T), Aligarh Muslim University (A.M.U) Aligarh, before completing his Masters of Engineering at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Upon moving to Calgary, Alberta to pursue knowledge and experience in the oil sands, he became registered with APEQA (The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta) and began working for different companies on a variety of projects, becoming familiarized with all different kinds of equipment. He started his career as a Mechanical Engineer in Training (E.I.T), working in an EPC environment, identifying project package work and working with clients and other disciplines (Process, Instrumentation and Control, Electrical, Civil and Project engineers) to design and procure equipment packages for projects in oil sands region.
