Social responsibility and engineering at Idemitsu Kosan's Refinery

Sadly I had arrived in Japan just a little too early for the famous Cherry Blossom Festivities, but still it was a beautiful early spring day - the perfect day, in fact, for a guided bus tour around the Idemitsu Kosan refinery in Chiba. The trip gave a nice impression of this neat and tidy refinery, from the tanker unloading bays, the tank yard farms, the gas storage units and of course the refining processes themselves. Also clearly visible were the tens of thousands of valves, all carefully selected to balance the requirements of both engineering and social responsibility.
