How much to plant? That is the big question facing potato growers around the country this spring. Good prices like we had this past year make it very tempting to up potato acres. It has been so tempting that the North American Potato Market News (NAPMN) forecasted in April that even more potatoes will be planted this spring than two years ago. There was such a surplus of russets from that crop that Idaho flake plants were turning away free potatoes. Last fall U.S. growers trimmed 44,000 acres and profitability quickly returned.
