Afire in a turbine enclosure typically results in damaged equipment, lengthy and expensive cleanup, and extended outages - sometimes costing into the millions of dollars in lost equipment and productivity. There are a variety of fire suppression systems on the market today to protect turbine enclosures, from water mist through carbon dioxide to clean agent, each of which has advantages and disadvantages. This article will review those types of systems, as well as a new class of fire suppression system: hybrid clean agent-water mist.
