Last month saw the 'one year on' birthday of the coalition government in Westminster and some startling results in the national elections in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (NI) and the local elections in England and NI. I'm sure I saw a look of surprise on the normally assured face of Alex Salmond as he took the plaudits for the Scottish National Party's landslide. Incredible. Meanwhile, the Labour Party in Wales fell just one seat short of an overall majority in the Assembly; the Local Government Association stayed very much under Tory control; oh and of course there was that resounding 'no' to AV!
