Strong year for Volvo Trucks but final quarter reflects global slowdown

The Volvo Group reported truck deliveries (all makes) of 250,151 units in 2008, an increase of 6% on 236,356 in 2007 and generated revenues of SEK203,235m, an 80% increase over SEK 187,892m. However, the order intake for the year fell nearly 50% (47%) to 149,080 compared with 282,996 a year ago (albeit this was a record order book) and even more alarming was its net order book for the final quarter 2008 was reported as 13,678 compared with 76,417. Deliveries during the fourth quarter in contrast to the year slipped 22% to 59,528 units compared with 76,525 in 2007.
