Germany - The Powertrain division of Continental Automotive, part of Hanover-based Continental AG, revealed new developments allowing close coupled exhaust gas after-treatment systems in heavy commercial vehicles at this year's IAA exhibition. Positioning the diesel oxidation catalytic converter (DOC) near the engine means the volume of the DOC can be reduced by around 30%. Furthermore, using the recently developed catalyst substrate featuring the 'CS-Design' (Crossversal Structure), together this can reduce the weight of the DOC by up to 20%.
