Thermo King sets industry standard with new R-452A refrigerant

January 1, 2015 saw refrigeration specialist, Thermo King of Brussels - an Ingersoll Rand subsidiary - introduce R-452A - a new generation of refrigerant that has almost half the global warming potential (GWP) of the current refrigerant in use today, R-404A, in its SLXe trailer refrigeration single temperature units across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Representatives of Thermo King at the UK CV Show last month explained that by transitioning to the new refrigerant with its SLXe trailer units, Thermo King was breaking new ground and offering units that not only combined the same high performance and reduced sound levels, but also offered an improved environmental performance courtesy of the lower global warming potential (GWP) of the new refrigerant. More specifically, R404A has a GWP of 3,943 due to higher levels of fluorinated greenhouse gases (otherwise referred to as F-Gases), whereas the GWP of R-452A is 45% less at 1945.
