Germany/China - Next month will see the start of trailer production by Schmitz Cargobull AG of Horstmar, Germany and its joint venture partner, Dongfeng Motor Group, at the JV's new trailer plant in Wuhan, China. Andreas Schmitz, member of the board at Schmitz Cargobull AG, who has been in China since the middle of 2013 coordinating and setting up the production line, selecting suppliers, the management and other personnel, announced at the group's pre-IAA event in Altenberge last month that the new production hall had been completed at the end of June and the project was on schedule to commence series production this September. The plant in Wuhan is located on a green field site extending to 150,000 sq m. The facilities consist of a production hall measuring 26,000 sq m, offices (2,200 sq m) and R&D centre 1800 sq m. It has space and options to expand by up to 90,000 sq m.
