Daimler discontinues Sterling brand; consolidates manufacturing operations in the US and Mexico

USA/Germany - Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), Portland, Oregon, a Daimler AG company, has announced plans to discontinue its Sterling Trucks brand as well as close manufacturing plants in the USA and Canada. The moves are being taken in response to continued severely depressed demand for trucks in North America. Effective from March 2009, the Sterling Trucks heavy-duty A-Line and L-Line trucks and the medium-duty Acterra model are to be discontinued, DTNA announced. New truck sales opf these models are to continue until present dealer stocks are depleted; dealers have been instructed to continue to accept orders until January 15, 2009. The Sterling dealer network is to also continue to perform warranty repairs and maintenance services, supply replacement parts and provide technical support.
