Foton andDAF continue with truck factory investments in Brazil despite downturn

Marco Antonio Davila, president DAF Caminhoes do Brasil stated that this year (2014) its plant in Ponta Grossa, State of Parana (PR), which opened in October 2013 would produce some 600 trucks, just 10% less than planned, but said that this reduction would not be lower than the market as a whole and forecast the Brazilian truck market to finish the year between 12% and 15% lower than last year. To date the DAF plant has produced only the XF heavy-duty tractor models, but it plans to start production of its heavy-duty range of rigid trucks, the DAF CF in 2015. According to Davila, there is no reason currently to stop or modify its progressive truck model introduction and production schedule established before the market downturn. Brazil still has strong potential for truck sales for many years to come, said Davila, especially when one considers the average age of a truck fleet is exceeding 17 years.
