General Electric of Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, reports that GE engineers have begun testing a transit bus equipped with a new hybrid energy system integrating GE's Durathon sodium-halide battery, a lithium-ion battery and a hydrogen fuel cell. According to Tim Richter, systems engineer in the Electric Propulsion Systems Laboratory at GE Global Research suggests that with this system, GE is bringing together a battery that supplies power, a battery that provides a lower amount of energy for longer and a fuel cell that creates the base load of electricity to operate the bus.
