GE tests new FC/battery hybrid system

General Electric of Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, reports that GE engineers have begun testing a transit bus equipped with a new hybrid energy system integrating GE's Durathon sodium-halide battery, a lithium-ion battery and a hydrogen fuel cell. According to Tim Richter, systems engineer in the Electric Propulsion Systems Laboratory at GE Global Research suggests that with this system, GE is bringing together a battery that supplies power, a battery that provides a lower amount of energy for longer and a fuel cell that creates the base load of electricity to operate the bus. But not unlike current systems its optimisation all centres on the management system of the batteries and fuel cells and being able to manage them in an intelligent way.
