Despite a buoyant market, not everyone wants to stretch Hummers. According to Royale Limousine's operations director, Jeff DeMarco, "Hummer is not approved [for stretching] by GM. The problem is those cars come off the assembly line built to be a truck at the size and weight they are. When you add 200in and thousands of pounds of weight to it, the brake system isn't going to hold up or the emergency brakes don't hold. The car wasn't built for that [length and weight] so it could end up as a compromise." Nevertheless, Los Angeles-based Galaxy completes three or four cars a month. Says partner Philip Dom: "On every vehicle we have to upgrade the suspension and brakes, and change the tires to 10-ply." Dom adds that GM advised them on what measures should be implemented when stretching the Hummer and his company "works in conjunction" with GM. However, because it stretches Hummers by 200in - 60in more than the recognized limit - GM would not supply the company with vehicles with brakes and suspension already uprated.
