Goodyear to shut Philippsburg tyre plant in Germany

In a statement Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany released last month regarding the planned closure of its tyre factory in Philippsburg, northwest of Stuttgart, the tyre maker claimed the 48-year old plant's closure will occur as part of efforts on Goodyear's part to reduce overcapacity for low-margin products. According to a 'Form 8-K' report published by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on 20 October, Goodyear "expects to be substantially complete with this rationalisation plan by the end of 2017," however the company must first sit down and negotiate the fate of 888 workers with the IG BCE trade union.
