Potholes feature in roads maintenance event: Britain's 'Professor Pothole' - aka Steve Biczysko of Atkins Highways & Transportation - had an attentive audience at the recent Road Maintenance Treatments seminar in London

Potholes in road pavements are a complex fatigue, deformation and permeability related problem into which there has been relatively little research in the past. They represent the least predictable but most serious form of pavement distress. And they have been around an awfully long time, at least since the advent of motor traffic; this winter generating as much public ire (and more) as ever. So said Atkins Highways & Transportation's Steve Biczysko, speaking at the recent CIHT/SCI/IAT seminar on Road Maintenance Treatments. Introduced by the soubriquet Professor Pothole (in wry acknowledgement of his expertise), Mr. Biczysko was faced by delegates whose interest in his presentation 'Pothole patching' was keen. They were mostly roads men and women, many with road surface responsibilities.
