Three Mills Lock in east London is the latest in a series of major transport infrastructure schemes to be completed in advance of the 2012 Olympic Games. Progress with construction of the Olympic Park near Stratford is becoming more evident as the main stadium and aquatic centre take shape and begin to dominate the skyline. Away from the main site, the focus is on developing transport infrastructure to aid movement of goods and carry thousands of spectators to competition venues during peak hours. The most recent Olympics related transport project to be completed in east London is the Three Mills Lock and Prescott Channel, a short stretch of water which has been restored to allow navigation between the Thames and Olympics site. The new lock features a pair of hydraulically powered gates and the structure is accompanied by sluices, designed to regulate the depth of water and remove tidal influence upstream.
