Conventional wisdom may predict that in times of economic hardship, membership of learned and technical societies will fall as people are made redundant, change career or review their priorities. The opposite is happening at the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, which has seen an influx of new members keen to boost their professional standing and make new contacts.
