There is now a lot of technology in use by operators and users of UK transport networks. Compared to what could lie ahead, however, technological developments in transport are in their infancy. How quickly they mature to full potential will rely mostly on institutional and governmental approaches. A cursory glance around the UK's Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) sector, with one eye on ITS developments in Europe, shows the UK to be one of Europe's leading states in terms of ITS deployment. But many highway and transport authorities here are way ahead of others.
