Lubricants with re-refined base oils - a bright future?

Group I base oil has been the most important base stock for industrial and also automotive applications since the beginning of modern refining technology. Because of environmental regulations and fuel economy trends in the automotive lubricant business more and more highly refined group II/III or even PAOs are used. Furthermore in modern industrial machinery the requirements for lubricants is increasing so the demand for higher quality base oil is also driven by industrial applications. This leads to less demand for group I and subsequently shut downs of group I base oil refineries. Base stock from re-refined origin is a suitable alternative which offers high quality combined with technological and ecological advantages.
